ABSTRACT. The article compares two versions of Miron Białoszewski’s American journal. The first one is censored, literarily elaborated and published officially in communist times, albeit posthumously. The other is a crude piece from Białoszewski’s Secret Diary. Both versions are analysed as attempts to come out in literature. In his American journal written in 1982, Białoszewski searched for a “third way” between communism and the Solidarity movement – namely, in the (homo)sexual liberation which he found in porn cinemas, darkrooms, and sex shops.
